This publication reviews strategies for improving medication adherence in patients with asthma and COPD. It focuses on studies which have assessed clinical outcomes as well as adherence. The publication pays particular attention to studies of electronic inhaler monitoring, reflecting the amount of research in this area. This adherence strategy is now available to patients and physicians in New Zealand via the Smartinhaler™ electronic monitor platform.
