Professor Michael Gold

Professor Michael Gold is a paediatric allergist and immunologists who holds conjoint positions as a clinical academic in the Discipline of Paediatrics, University of Adelaide, is past Medical Unit Head of the Department of Allergy and Immunology, at the Women’s and Children’s Health Network, Adelaide. His research and clinical interests have been in the areas of childhood food allergy and vaccine safety. He has over 110 peer-reviewed publications and held multiple NHMRC and ARC grants as a principle and co-investigator. Translation of his research has contributed to national and international guidelines in regard to the prevention of egg allergy in early childhood and novel methods for vaccine safety surveillance. Current research include randomised controlled trials evaluating novel methods to treat peanut allergy, the relationship between food allergy and vaccination and the use of m-health for vaccine safety surveillance. In 2010, he was the first Australian appointed to the World Health Organisation Global Advisory Committee for Vaccine Safety. Nationally, he was been an expert vaccine advisor to the Therapeutic Goods Administration since 2006. He is a member of the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology (ASCIA) and the medical board of Allergy Anaphylaxis Australia.
