Speaker Series – Evolution of breakthrough cancer pain management

This review is a summary of a recent speaker event held in Sydney titled ‘How the management of breakthrough cancer pain is evolving.’ The presentation included how supportive care fits in with palliative care, clinical features of BTcP, the Association of Palliative Medicine (APM) recommendations for the treatment of BTcP, the use of rapid onset opioids, and some of the ongoing controversies such as addiction and abuse.

The presentations were conducted by Dr Andrew Davies, Clinical Lead for Supportive & Palliative Care at the St. Luke’s Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey County Hospital, and Visiting Reader at the University of Surrey.
