Educational Series - Diagnosis and management of Crohn’s disease

Crohn’s disease is an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disorder characterised by relapsing inflammation.

This review presents relevant background information on the incidence and diagnosis of Crohn’s disease in Australia, including an outline of treatment guidelines and available treatment approaches. The various options for the pharmacologic management of patients with Crohn’s disease are outlined, along with a description of the pivotal trials and long-term data.

It also provides commentary and recommendations from Dr Britt Christensen who holds a senior medical staff appointment at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where she is the Head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit.
