Haematology Speaker Series - iwCLL

This publication is a summary of a symposium on evolving approaches to therapy in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), held during the 16th International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (iwCLL), Sydney, Australia, from 7–9 September 2015. This biennial meeting brings together haematologists and oncologists to encourage in-depth and open discussion about the future management of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). The meeting focuses specifically on CLL, examining this disease area in terms of basic science and clinical management.

This year’s meeting incorporated state-of-the-art lectures from experts in the field: Professor John Gribben (Professor and Consultant Haematologist, The London Clinic, London, UK), Professor Steven CoutrĂ© (Professor of Medicine, Haematology, Stanford University Medical Center, USA), Professor Clemens-Martin Wendtner (Professor of Medicine and Director, Klinikum Schwabing Academic Teaching Hospital of the University of Munich), and Dr Tait Shanafelt (Haematologist and Oncologist at the Mayo Clinic Hospital). They presented updated clinical information on ibrutinib, idelalisib and rituximab, and debated the future of chemoimmunotherapy in the treatment of CLL.
