Professor Philip Ward

Professor Philip Ward is a clinical neuroscientist, the director of the Schizophrenia Research Unit, based in South Western Sydney Local Health District, and an associate professor in the School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He has conducted a wide range of research projects looking at the underlying pathophysiology that give rise to affective disorders and first episode psychosis for over twenty-five years. Using a variety of neuroimaging, electrophysiological methodologies along with other tools  of cognitive neuroscience, he and his colleagues have identified widely replicated indices of fundamental auditory processing abnormalities in these patient groups. Over the past decade his interests have extended to translational research aimed at improving cognitive deficits in people with established illness and physical health comorbidities in young people with first episode psychosis.
